In 1982 in the province of Surat Thani was built a dam for hydroelectric power. This was a huge flooded canyon, an area of about 170 square km, is located among the array of karst mountains with elevations up to 1000 meters. These mountains exceed the height of the best-known similar arrays in the Bay of Phang nga (Thailand) and Halong Bay (Vietnam).
The lake is almost completely surrounded by wild jungle. Drive up to it is possible only by hydroelectric dams and from the pier to go to travel to it by motor boat. For many animals living in the jungle, the lake is the only source of fresh water, so in the evening and at night they come close to the shores to drink.
