In the world there are a lot of very unusual places and breathtaking creations of nature. But sometimes, when the «improvement» mother nature takes people, it leads to very unexpected results and there are very strange, incredible miracles of nature. See for yourself!
1. Drzava or «the Gates of hell» — it is a gas crater in Turkmenistan, which never ceases to burn for 40 years. It «great» creation — is the work of Soviet engineers, who in 70-ies of the last century looking for oil.
During the drilling portion of the soil under which was a large gas field had failed. Fearing toxic fumes, Soviet engineers didn’t think up anything cleverer, than to burn gas in order to get rid of it. Mohammed Musa Abdullahi woke up Saturday morning sick and sluggish. The day before he fell ill and lay down right in the school building. Abdulahi went to the house and suddenly noticed that the streets of his village, in North-West Cameroon, frightening silence reigns. Roads and yards of Soboma were littered with corpses. People were lying as if dead on the go or in the middle of a conversation with a neighbor. Killing all dogs, all the cattle, the trees fell dead birds and insects.
So on August 21, 1986 in the village on the shores of lake Nyos killed 11 family members Abdulahi and 1,700 of his countrymen. He survived because he was in a locked office, in a school built on a hill.

The lake Avernus is a volcanic lake situated in the homonymous crater in the Italian Campania region about 4 km Northwest of Pozzuoli. The nearby volcanic fields, known as the Phlegraean and the lake itself is part of an extensive volcanic belt Up. Aviernoz is circular with a circumference of 2 km, and its depth reaches 60 meters.
The lake Avernus played a big role in the life of the ancient Romans, who considered him as the entrance to the underground Kingdom of Hades. Its name comes from the Greek word meaning “without birds”, because, according to legend, any bird flying over the lake, dropped dead from toxic fumes. Roman poets often used the word “Avernus” as a synonym for the underworld: for example, Virgil placed the entrance to hell in the cave near the lake, and from thence into the Kingdom of Hades and Odysseus.
